A First Look: Why I Ditched My Former Opinion And Went For It
What Gives Me The Greatest Chances Of Him Crying?
This is something I went back and forth with a lot. If you had asked me a year ago, I would have said there was no way I was doing a first look. I think there’s something really special about seeing each other for the first time as you walk down the aisle. That being said, I changed my mind for a few reasons.
Logistics. If your cocktail hour is immediately after the ceremony, doing pictures beforehand lets you take part in the cocktail hour (something we definitely wanted)
Intimate Moment. It’s hard to get moments alone with your husband the day of the wedding, as crazy as that sounds. This was one of those few moments alone, and it happened to be one of the most special.
3. Genuine Reaction. While I’ve been to plenty of weddings where the groom sobs as his bride walks down the aisle, I knew that Adam wouldn’t have that reaction. Especially when considering that all of our guests would be looking at him to check for tears. This first look allowed us to have genuine reactions, without thinking of others perceptions.
4. Getting out the nerves. It is a nerve-wracking day, to say the least. I’m not sure why, but adrenaline really did take over the majority of moments and caused legitimate blackouts. Walking down the aisle is definitely one of those nerve wracking times, and we both wanted to be as present as possible, so we decided to see each other first to get the jitters out of the way.
Obviously no right or wrong way to do things here, but I think it’s a good idea to consider why you want/don’t want a first look and make the decision that makes the most sense for both of you.
