Ravello - My Travel Guide

When asked what my favorite part of the honeymoon was, Ravello instantly comes to mind. We made it into a day trip during our 4 night stay in Positano, and I’m so glad we did. Ravello seems like an Italian secret. Not touristy and truly the most breathtaking views we’ve ever seen, it sits in the clouds amongst lush gardens and greenery. We walked aimlessly for the afternoon, exploring the town square, many shops, and of course eating/drinking our way through it all. I wish we could have stayed there for a few nights, but if you’re in the Amalfi Coast, this is absolutely a must (even just for a few hours)!

Getting There:

We had our hotel schedule a driver to take us from Positano to Ravello. It’s only a few miles, but the traffic makes it about an hour and a half. I had to close my eyes on 90% of the ride because you’re speeding along the most narrow, windy roads and praying that a car isn’t coming from around the curve!! Once you arrive, though, everything is within walking distance!

Things To Do:

  • Explore!! The best part of Ravello is that it is truly a hidden gem! Unlike most of the Amalfi Coast, which is filled with tourists, Ravello seems to be an authentic, tucked-away paradise. We found ourselves wandering the streets, trying ALL of the gelato, sharing a bottle of wine in the plaza, and using each hotel’s pool as an excuse to sample their cocktails and snacks!

  • Visit the gardens. Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo have the most stunning views and are only a few euros to enter.

  • Take a cooking class. We heard amazing reviews on Mama Agata’s, but unfortunately didn’t have time to try it. It starts at 10am and lasts all day, but is apparently a MUST when visiting

Where To Eat:

Drinks:

  • Anywhere in the plaza! This is definitely the more touristy spot in Ravello, but is still pretty quiet compared to the rest of the Amalfi. Plop yourselves down at a cafe or restaurant and order an Aperol Spritz or bottle of wine!

  • Palazzo Avino: Our favorite drinks were from here! They’re served with a bowl of fresh olives and some other fun snacks, too

Lunch:

  • Belmond Caruso’s infinity pool is a great spot to enjoy lunch with a view. We happened to be one of two couples there at the time, and got to enjoy some peace and quiet

  • Palazzo Avino: Fresh pastas and salads

  • Babel Wine Bar: Think wine bar meets ceramic art gallery. Shop, drink, purchase, repeat

Dinner:

  • Rossellinis: Palazzo Avino’s Michelin Star restaurant with a 7-course tasing menu if you’re feeling fancy

  • Pizzeria Vittoria: Fresh, gourmet pizzas and delicious seafood dishes including baby squid in a tomato garlic sauce
