Dance Lessons: Necessary Or Not?

It’s all fun and games until someone misses a move or trips on your train.

Picturing your big day to resemble an act from “Dancing With The Stars?” Yeah, so did I. Not sure why, considering we’re both rhythmically-challenged and our take on a classic dance move consists of club-style grinding after downing 4 shots of tequila.

That being said…we took 3 dance lessons leading up to the big day, with specific choreography including box steps, dips, twirls, lifts, and other moves (ok, those were the only moves but saying it out loud sounds more pathetic than I intended)…we practiced every night, telling Alexa to “Play Thomas Rhett” on repeat. And yet, when the moment came to shine, we froze. I don’t know if it was the 3 Blushing Bride cocktails I had just finished or the spectators, all waiting to be impressed, but Olga’s choreography went right out of our heads. (See below for what looks like Adam whispering sweet nothings in my ear but is actually him reminding me of our next move)

Moral of the story…take a dance lesson or don’t. We actually had a ton of fun doing them; a highlight of my week was seeing Adam cower to Olga’s commands as she’d ask him why he “no work out more”! It definitely wasn’t the “Dancing With The Stars” moment I was imagining, but fun nevertheless. Just be careful not to take on too much, because the adrenaline the day of really does kick in and the last thing you want to be thinking about during your romantic first dance is how many more 8 counts until your next move.

Tip: Have the band/DJ play your first dance once more at the very end of the night, just the two of you. We did it as our guests lined up outside the tent for our exit and it was one of our favorite moments. And of course I nailed the choreography THAT time!!
