What I'm Packing In My Hospital Bag

What’s In My Hospital Bag?

As a first time Mom, I am almost certainly over-doing it. But, I’d rather be over prepared and not use half the items than need something and wish I had packed it. I’ll be sure to update everyone after the fact on what was needed versus what was not!

For Mom:

  • Soft Blanket - I hear the ones they give you in the hospital are super thin/not comfy

  • Slippers - These are SO soft and cheap from amazon

  • Grippy Socks - For walking around the hospital in

  • Portable Fan - I got this one for the baby’s stroller, but plan on hooking it to the hospital bed. Everyone says you get really hot while in labor/pushing

  • Black Robe - Soft and comfy to lounge in after giving birth

  • Black Night Gown - This one is soft and has buttons, which makes it easier to do skin-on-skin and breastfeed

  • Black PJ Set - Again, black and with button-downs for comfort and practicality. These are from Target and are basically a dupe of the Eberjey brand

  • Nursing Bras - Packing 2 of these (Got them as a set from Amazon)

  • Nursing Tank - Might throw one of these on under my robe in case I get hot. Easy access for breastfeeding as well

  • Coming Home Dress - Something flowy and comfortable. I don’t think I’ll want to be in leggings just yet, and love how easy this dress is to just throw on without having to worry about an outfit

  • Nipple Butter - This brand has great reviews

  • Peri Bottle - I got this from the Frida Mom Delivery Kit. I know the hospital provides you with a bottle, but I hear the shape of this one is much easier to use

  • Breast Feeding Pillow - Will probably bring the boppy since it’s less bulky to carry than the Brest Friend

  • Pillow - I ordered these in blue off of Amazon so that our white ones don’t get mistaken for hospital pillows and get taken by accident

  • Long Extension Cord - For phone and other electronics

  • Portable Speaker - I’m planning on playing music during labor and wanted a small portable speaker that we could use in our room

  • Small Mirror - For touching up or doing light makeup after getting an epidural (if I decide I want to). Your legs will be numb, so there’s no walking to the bathroom mirror. This makes it easy to get ready from bed

  • Tumbler + Straw and Mio drops for water flavoring

  • Small toiletries - Toothpaste, tooth brush, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wipes, chapstick, deodorant

  • Shower Shoes / Flip Flops

For Baby:

  • A Gown - Should make night time changes super easy!

  • 2 Footie PJs - These have zippers for easy changing, fold-over mittens, and footies

  • 2 Swaddles - I plan on bringing the halo swaddle and an Aden and Anais blanket swaddle. This is personal preference; the hospital will have blanket swaddles as well, but I hear they’re not always the softest

  • Nail Trimmer - Apparently babies come out with sharp nails…who knew!

  • Pacifier - I’m not sure if we’ll use this right away or not, but will be bringing just in case

  • A Going Home Outfit - This one from Old Navy is what we plan on putting her in…soooo cute

  • Announcement Sign - I got mine from Caden Lane, but this one is adorable too from Etsy!

  • Mittens, Socks, & Hat - The hospital should have these, as well, but never hurts to have extras just in case

  • White Noise Machine - Will be helpful for when nurses come in/out every few hours

  • Vava Night Light - We’ll probably use this dimmable night light for middle-of-the-night feedings/changes so we don’t have to turn on the harsh overhead lights

  • Receiving Blanket - This one is SO soft. I plan on wrapping her in this while we do skin-to-skin, as well as have it for her in the car for comfort

  • Car Seat - Can’t bring the baby home without having the car seat properly installed first!

For Dad:

  • 2 Changes of clothes

  • Blanket

  • Pillow

  • Snacks and energy drinks
